The poor Washington football fan’s guide to college football

Since we’ve been so busy watching our teams lose by fifty to sixty points every contest, it’s hard to follow what is going on in the rest of the land. Since he won’t have to analyze the possible bowl games that the Cougars and Huskies would make, Editor-in-Chief Brandon Hansen gives you the rundown on what you should know about college football.

1. Nick Saban is incredibly evil

He’s seriously a bad dude. Wins national championships while talking about commitment, then abandons teams. I also hear that he punches puppies in his spare time. How could anyone like this man?

Oh wait, Alabama does because they’re ranked No. 1 in the entire country.

2. The Pac-10 stinks

With USC being the only good team from that conference, everyone else is toiling around in parity. I can’t defend it anymore when SEC fans start accusing me of its inferiority… other than the fact that at least our fans wear shoes and shirts into games.

3. The most interesting team in college football is Texas Tech

Mike Leach has got to be the most sought after head coach interviews by media people desperate for good quotes. That guy is a hoot, almost as much as Mike Singletary without the pants-dropping. Then there’s quarterback Grahm Harrell with a QB rating of 165.90 and cover-me-if-you-can wide receiver Michael Crabtree who could probably catch a Osama Bin Laden if you asked him too. Also don’t forget that the Red Raiders played Eastern Washington earlier in the season in a game that was actually competitive, so if these guys end up finishing the season on top, the Eagles will have to really start thinking about what the heck happen with their season.

4. Utah and Boise State are enigmas again

Both teams are undefeated. Both teams aren’t in big-time conferences, but you can’t ignore them. With the Big East and ACC playing like absolute garbage this year, you really have to wonder about where each conference ranks in toughness. While I’m on the train of though that if Utah or Boise were in the Big Ten or Big Twelve it wouldn’t even be close, you still have to reward teams for going through their schedule undefeated.

And don’t forget Boise State plays Idaho in one of the most lop-sided yet fierce rivalries in college football. The Vandals hate the Broncos. Ask the guy stealing all the hub caps in the Boise State fan parking near the Kibbie Dome.

5. We’re not complaining about the BCS yet

Yet. Give it time though.
