GSL Cross Country
On to state finals
Spokane’s reputation as a cross-country hotbed is well deserved. After regionals last Saturday (Nov. 1) down in Richland, the GSL will be sending six teams out the of the 10 that qualified. All four team titles in 4A and 3A were won by GSL schools. Ferris boys took the title in 4A, the North Central boys took the title in 3A, Central Valley won the 4A girls title and Mt. Spokane was tops in the 3A girls category.
Dave McKenna
G-Prep football
The first-year head coach of Gonzaga Prep led his team to a 7-2 record and was on the verge of making the state playoffs. Ending the season with a 28-7 victory over Lewis & Clark, McKenna and the Bullpups finished just behind one-loss Ferris and Central Valley squads. When the preseason predictions come out next year, look for this young team to be the favorite in the GSL.
Levko Koper
Chiefs hockey
It looks like the Spokane Chiefs have another scoring threat (like they needed one) with the emergence of 18-year-old Levko Koper. The left wing recorded his first career hat trick last Saturday (Nov. 1) in a 5-1 win over the Kootenay Ice at the Spokane Arena. Koper also had two goals during the Memorial Cup last year, including an overtime game-winner in game one of that tournament.
