Final GSL Football Power Rankings

November 1, 2008 by admin · 1 Comment

With the regular season wrapped up and five GSL teams headed to the postseason, it’s time to wrap up the Power Rankings. CV and Ferris remain on top while some other teams make quite a jump after the final week of action. See how your favorite team did and how this season will be remembered.

1. Central Valley (8-1)
Last Week: Defeated Mead 20-10, Previous Ranking: 1

Central Valley hasn’t come out and had a bad game yet this season. Their lone blemish was a thrilling 27-23 loss to Ferris, but that shouldn’t matter heading into the state playoffs.

2. Ferris (8-1)
Last Week: Defeated U-Hi 45-14, Previous Ranking: 3

The Saxons will have to shake off memories of last year’s early playoff exit and play the same way they have all season long. Not many teams can deal with the combined effect of their passing and running game. Their balance should serve them well.

3. Gonzaga Prep (7-2)
Last Week: Defeated LC 28-7, Previous Ranking: 4

The only hurdle the Bullpups couldn’t overcome were the two GSL teams making the 4A playoffs, however with plenty of youth on this squad this could be the league’s favorite next season.

4. East Valley (5-3)
Two Weeks Ago: Defeated Rogers 62-21, Previous Ranking: 5

After starting the year inconsistently, the Knights showed they were the best 3A team in the GSL with two wins over 4A schools. With plenty of speed, this team could be very dangerous in the playoffs.

5. Lewis and Clark (6-3)
Last Week: Lost to Gonzaga Prep 28-7, Previous Ranking: 2

A promising season came to an end with Ferris defeating U-Hi and the Tigers falling to Gonzaga Prep.

6. Mt. Spokane (5-4)
Last Week: Defeated Rogers 34-0, Previous Ranking: 7

The Wildcats are in the postseason and rightly so, they’ve played everyone in the GSL tough. With Colton Williams at running back, Mt. Spokane has one of the most dangerous weapons in the state.

7. Mead (5-4)
Last Week: Lost to Central Valley 20-10, Previous Ranking: 6

The Panthers won every game against 3A schools and lost every game against the 4A schools, except for struggling U-Hi. Mead is going to have to improve next year if they want to compete in the 4A ranks.

8. Shadle Park (3-6)
Last Week: Defeated NC 38-14, Previous Ranking: 9

As the third best team in the 3A ranks, the Highlanders will see the postseason and after a feel-good win over NC, who knows what could happen?

9. University (2-7)
Last Week: Lost to Ferris 45-14, Previous Ranking: 10

After a six-win season last year, the Titans lost a lot of experienced seniors and ended up stumbling this year. And while it was a rocky road, some strides were made and U-Hi could bounce back next season.

10. Rogers (1-8)
Last Week: Lost to Mt. Spokane 34-0, Previous Ranking: 8

They ended the streak and have something to build on for next season. They’re just one slot out of the 3A playoffs, so with some improvement they could be sniffing the postseason.

11. North Central (0-9)
Last Week: Lost to Shadle Park 38-14, Previous Ranking 11

Occupying the bottom spot of the Power Rankings wire-to-wire this season, the Indians have a lot of work to do.

God you hate ferris don’t you? They have been the class of the league 3 years straight now. And early playoff exit? Semi-finals isn’t early…although i agree if you meant they shoulda won state instead of lc.
