It was the best of times… not really

November 4, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment

Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to remember a good friend; someone who gave us countless weekends of enjoyment and hope. They had a good run, even brought us an NBA title in 1979, but were tragically declared dead by authorities after a 129-13 drubbing taken by all three of its Div. I football teams last weekend.

Phillies, Rays a beautiful thing

As the morning dew slowly evaporated to the start of a clear-skied Wednesday, I breathed a sigh of relief.
The apocalypse had not reared its head during the middle of the night.

Watch out Whitworth, here comes La Verne!

September 9, 2008 by admin · 1 Comment

With the Pirates’ season opener just days away, anticipation is mounting for both sides – both Whitworth and La Verne.
Leopards Head Coach Andy Ankeny thinks his men will be ripe for the challenge.
“They are getting sick of practicing against each other,” Ankeny said.
La Verne is coming off a 1-8 struggle from 2007, which was Ankeny’s [...]

What’s on the docket this weekend?

While I will be enjoying some Emerald City relaxation with my bride-to-be, going to Pike Place Market and trips to Safeco Field, there will be plenty of Lilac City (and surrounding areas) action in the collegiate circuit if it piques your interest.

Pacman gets extra life without quarters

Apparently, the National Football League is all about giving guys a second chance… and third chance… and fourth chance.
Today, Adam “Pacman” Jones was given full reinstatement to play for the Dallas Cowboys, a team currently known more for off-the-field drama (Terrell Owens, Tony Romo, Tank Johnson and Pacman) than on-the-field success. The Cowboys are loaded [...]

A gloomy day in Rip City

I had received word this morning that Kevin Duckworth had passed away at the young age of 44.
For those who don’t know me, I grew up in Salem, Ore., during the hey day of Blazermania, Bill Schonely, Clyde the Glide and the Memorial Coliseum.
Duckworth was a vital widget in the juggernaut that was the Portland [...]

David Stern should be proud

Insomnia has its perks sometimes.
Last night, it warranted me watching the gold-medal final in men’s basketball between the so-called “Redeem Team” and Spain, two countries loaded with NBA talent.
The United States had blown Spain out of the water in pool play, but were competing under heavier circumstances: Spain, the reigning world champion, was looking to [...]

Morning Coffee in Cheney

August 23, 2008 by admin · 1 Comment

So one thing you’ll realize rather quickly about me is that I drink an insane amount of coffee. I don’t operate without coffee and fully plan to have a heart attack by age 35. Just so you know.
Currently, I’m sitting in a coffee shop in Cheney, Wash. about to go up and help cover the [...]

Eagle Weekend Madness

This weekend looks to be a great teaser for EWU athletics, as Friday brings a football intra-squad scrimmage on Gonzaga Prep’s nice FieldTurf, Saturday features an exhibition between the Eagles volleyball team and an alumni team and Sunday will be the first official athletic event for the department as the women’s soccer team travels to [...]
